"The Heir to The Throne" is a modern family business TV drama jointly produced by Youku and Media Asia Television Program Production. The drama is overseen by Leung Ka Shu as the executive producer, with Chan Tak Sau as the producer and directed by Choy Ching Shing and Chan Sun Hei. The leading roles are played by Charmaine Sheh, Raymond Lam, and Him Law, with other performances by Gallen Lo, Hui Siu Hung, Raymond Wong, Yu On On, Cheung Fung Nei, Chan Ching, Leung Ching Kei, Jeannie Chan, and Wong Man Yi. The series follows "Modern Dynasty," but the script is not directly related to the previous work. Instead, it is an entirely new story filmed in Malaysia and Hong Kong. Additionally, this series marks Charmaine Sheh and Raymond Lam's first collaboration since the TV drama "Line Walker", aired in 2014, a gap of 9 years. The drama made its grand premiere on May 13th, being broadcast on TVB Jade Channel in Hong Kong and exclusively on Youku across mainland China. At the 2024 Hong Kong International Film and Television Exhibition, Media Asia announced a collaboration with Youku to create the third installment of "Modern Dynasty," titled "Modern Dynasty: The Revenge Alliance." The drama is planned to start shooting in the second half of 2024.

The plot of "The Heir to The Throne" revolves around Qiu Hao Er (played by Charmaine Sheh), who is the eldest granddaughter of the Qiu family but is often overlooked. Growing up in the Qiu family, an affluent clan that favours males over females, she initially thought the only male grandson of the third generation, Qiu Zhi Bin (played by Him Law), would be the heir to the family. However, when the family's helmsman, Qiu Han Yang (played by Lau Kong), is critically ill, he leaves a shocking will that entrusts her to become the acting chairman of the group. This propels her into the center of power overnight, and the Qiu family is thrown into turmoil, setting the stage for a fierce battle over the position of the heir. Facing the struggles with her in-laws and the grudges within the family, everyone starts to act in their own interests in a battle of wits and courage. From many perspectives, numerous characters will have their eyes on the heir's position, but the ultimate question is, who will have the last laugh and emerge as the final victor?
