'The Hedgehog' is a comedy-drama film from mainland China, directed by Gu Changwei and written by Zheng Zhi, starring Ge You and Wang Junkai, along with performances by Li Ping, Geng Le, Liu Weiwei, and others. The film is adapted from Zheng Zhi's short story 'The Immortal Syndrome' and tells the absurd Northeast story of the uncle-nephew duo Wang Zhantuan and Zhou Zheng. In June 2024, the film was nominated for the main competition section of the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival, winning the 'Jin Jue Award for Best Screenplay.' It premiered on June 20, 2024, and was officially released nationwide on August 23 of the same year.

  • In the story, Wang Zhantuan (played by Ge You) exhibits strange behavior and is content in his own world. He often stands in the middle of the road, seriously directing a little hedgehog to cross, causing traffic jams. He even climbs onto rooftops, hanging a bundle of scallions on his arm, fantasizing that he is like a giant bird spreading its wings. Zhou Zheng (played by Wang Junkai) is sensitive and withdrawn due to his stuttering, and his parents' harsh upbringing has filled him with resistance and torment. Despite being misunderstood individuals, they can see into each other's hearts and form a precious friendship across generations. Although they are "misfits" in a mundane world, to each other, they are "normal people." This mismatched duo causes endless headaches for their families, leading to continuous comedic chaos…"
