The Goldfinger2023

All Details

  • In the film, Tony Leung plays the protagonist Cheng Yiyan, a man who moves to Hong Kong alone to seek new opportunities after going bankrupt in Malaysia. By chance, he meets a businessman named Tsang Gim Cheung (played by Simon Yam), who acknowledges and sponsors him, starting his journey of turning "stones into gold". Using the funds provided by Tsang Gim Cheung, he carries out a series of business operations including acquiring listed shell companies, establishing the "Chek Man Group" in the name of his secretary Zhang Jiawen (played by Charlene Choi), and expanding overseas businesses. His actions not only set a trading record in the Hong Kong real estate market, but also led to the soaring share price of the "Chek Man Group". Utilizing this situation, Cheng Yiyan borrowed further from banks to expand his business, which continued to drive up the stock price, then borrowed more, and expanded further. However, as Cheng Yiyan created a financial empire with a market value of over ten billion using these tactics, at a time when everything seemed to be going well, Tsang Gim Cheung discovered accounting issues with the Chek Man Group. He requested to dissolve the partnership but met with unforeseen violent death. As the bubble of the Chek Man Group's empire collapsed, Cheng Yiyan and senior executives of the group started being investigated by the ICAC. At this point, Liu Kaiyuan, the senior investigator of the ICAC played by Andy Lau, gets involved in the case. He engages in a high-intelligence showdown with Cheng Yiyan, vowing to find evidence of Cheng Yiyan's fraud and stock manipulation. However, as the ICAC began investigating Cheng Yiyan and the Chek Man Group, many involved parties started to die, leading people to suspect whether they died unexpectedly or fell victim to the manipulative "Golden Finger". This is where the suspense of the story lies.
