The storyline tells the growth experience of two sisters, Zi Yuan and Zi Que, who are new immigrants from Hunan, living in Hong Kong. They have to contend with poverty and issues related to identity, as well as co-existing with a father who has a long history of drug abuse. Since their childhood, their father's erratic emotional changes and his sudden disappearances due to his prison life have brought them constant insecurity. They attempted to appease their father during their early years, and by the time they were in high school, they began to resist, struggle, and evade him. As they grew up, they initially thought they could completely escape their father's influence. However, they discovered that everything they loved carried the shadow of their father, and was linked to specific childhood memories. This realization provides the groundwork for the deep emotional complexity explored in the film.
