Drifting Away

The story is set in the cold winter of Snow City, where a gruesome dismemberment case occurs in an ordinary residential building, shocking even the seasoned police captain Peng Zhaolin (played by Guo Jingfei). He feels immense guilt for having brushed past the suspect, Deng Ligang (played by Wang Qianyuan), in the hallway, after which he never managed to apprehend him. Deng Ligang leads a group that roams the country, specifically targeting "nightclub girls" for kidnapping and extortion, successfully evading the major crime unit for years.
As time passes, this criminal gang suddenly goes silent, using illegal means to cover their identities and live stable lives. One of the victims, Zhen Zhen (played by Zhao Jinmai), manages to escape during her kidnapping, but the trauma leaves a lasting impact on her. To overcome her pain, she works hard to get into the police academy and becomes a police officer.
However, both Zhen Zhen and Peng Zhaolin are haunted by nightmares, with the cries of the young girls lingering like an unshakeable shadow. Years later, Officer Zhen Zhen and Peng Zhaolin uncover a long-cold case based on a seemingly insignificant piece of information, embarking on a journey of a thousand miles to pursue the culprit and engage in relentless hunting.
