"Black Dog" is a 2024 Chinese mainland drama film directed and written by Guan Hu, starring Eddie Peng and Tong Liya. Liang Jing and Wang Zhonglei serve as executive producers, with the screenplay by Ge Rui, Guan Hu, and Wu Bing. The film features special appearances by Jia Zhangke, Zhang Yi, Yuan Hong, Wei Chen, Wang Yanhui, Zhang Jianya, and Zhang Yang. The main cast includes Zhou You, Wang Yiquan, Hu Xiaoguang, Yin Yuanzhang, Zhang Li, Mo Tuhongzhe, Wu You, Da Youwei, Chubu Huajie, and Wang Naixun, with cameo appearances by Zhao Yi, Niu Ben, Gao Qiang, Sha Baoliang, Li Jiuxiao, Liang Jing, and Huang Miyi. The film tells the story of Erlang, who joins a local dog-catching team and spends his days transporting stray dogs. He is eventually awakened to a sense of compassion for life by a stray dog, leading him to save the strays. "Black Dog" was selected for the Un Certain Regard section at the 77th Cannes Film Festival and had its global premiere on May 18, 2024, where it won the Best Film in the Un Certain Regard section and the Palm Dog Jury Prize. The film was released in mainland China on June 15, 2024.
