Wong Jing

Wong Jing, originally named Wong Yat-sheung, was born on May 3, 1955, in Hong Kong. He is a renowned film director, screenwriter, and producer. His pen names also include "Not a Woman" and "Not a Wild Man." He is currently the owner of Mega-Vision Project Workshop (MVPW) and a key figure in Shaw Brothers Pictures International Limited. Wong has served as a director and general manager at See Corporation Limited and was formerly the chairman of Starj & Snazz Entertainment.
Wong began his screenwriting career in 1976 with the TVB romance drama "Heart Has Thousands of Threads." In 1981, he directed his first film, "Challenge of the Gamesters," quickly rising to prominence in the Hong Kong film industry. In 1984, he wrote the script for the wuxia film "New Tales of the Flying Fox," and in 1987, his comedy "The Romancing Stars" became a major box office hit and a classic. His self-written and directed film "Tricky Brains" in 1991 also received positive feedback, while the action-comedy "Love on Delivery," which he produced in 1994, became another popular film.
In 1997, Wong co-founded the Partners Company Limited (BoB) with other collaborators. In 2002, he wrote the sci-fi film "The Wesley's Mysterious File," and in 2005 and 2006, he won the Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards for Best Screenplay for "Colour of the Loyalty" and "Wo Hu," respectively. In 2010, he released the sci-fi film "Future X-Cops," which he both wrote and directed, and in 2014, his comedy "From Vegas to Macau" received widespread acclaim. In 2017, he directed the action-crime film "Chasing the Dragon," starring Donnie Yen and Andy Lau, which garnered positive reviews and box office success.
Wong is known for his prolific and populist style, particularly in the 1990s, with his Category III films like "Naked Killer" becoming cult classics, significantly impacting the Hong Kong film industry. Over time, his works have encompassed various genres, including gambling films and action comedies, achieving commercial success in both Hong Kong and mainland China. By August 2024, his produced film "Fury 12 Hours" aired, and in 2025, his directed film "Hit N Fun" premiered in Hong Kong, continuing to showcase his influence and creative vitality in the film industry.
