Vivian Hsu, born Apas.Syulan on March 19, 1975, in the Fengyuan District of Taichung City, is a Taiwanese singer and actress. Her entertainment career began in 1990 when she participated in the talent selection for the TV show "TV Star Championship" and won first place, subsequently debuting with the girl group "Girl's Team".
In 1988, she joined the "Cat Team" as an assistant host for the show "Youth Duel." After the disbandment of the girl group in 1993, Vivian began her solo career. In 1994, she starred in the comedy film "Shaolin Popey". In 1995, she released her first Japanese single, "唇的神話" (Myth of Lips), and in 1996, she launched her first Japanese album, "天使·想" (Angel, Think), as well as her first Korean album, "천사미소녀" (Angel Smiling Girl).
In 1997, she joined the band "BLACK BISCUITS" and released her first Mandarin album, "大麻煩" (Big Trouble), in 1998. The band disbanded shortly after, in 1999. In 2000, Vivian was invited by Jay Chou to write songs like "可愛女人" (Lovely Woman) and "龍卷風" (Tornado). In 2001, she became the lead singer of the band The d.e.p.
As her career progressed, she released her fifth Mandarin album, "狠狠愛" (Love Fiercely), in 2005. In 2006, she was nominated for Best Actress at the 29th Hundred Flowers Awards for her role in the romantic film "The Knot" and won the Best Singer-Songwriter Award at the Southeast Music Chart for the Hong Kong-Taiwan region. The following year, she starred in the youth romance drama "戀愛兵法" (Love Tactics), and in 2011, she appeared in the film "The Star and the Sea".
In 2014, Vivian served as a mentor on the Dragon Television music reality show "Chinese Idol Season 2," and in 2015, she was a producer for the film "The Kid from the Big Apple." In 2018, she starred in the thriller "The Tag-Along: The Devil Fish". In 2021, she starred in the dramas "Who's By Your Side" and "Light the Night". In 2024, her film "Doubles Match" was released. Her diverse talents and ongoing contributions have secured her a prominent place in the Chinese music and film industries.
