Umin Boya was born on March 1, 1978, in Yuli, Hualien County. He is of Seediq and Sakizaya descent and works as an actor, director, and screenwriter. He debuted in 2000 and began his career in the television drama "大醫院小醫師 (Big Hospital, Small Doctor)". He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Bell Awards for his outstanding performances in "Crystal Boys" and "Banquet". His films "Orz Boyz!", "Seediq Bale" and "Together", have also received wide attention. In 2007, he began trying his hand at writing and directing. His directed dramas "十歲笛娜的願望 (Dana's Wish at Ten)" and "生命關懷系列-說好不准哭 (The Palliative Care Series - No Crying Allowed)" both received affirmation from the Golden Bell Awards. In 2014, he took on the monumental task of directing the film "KANO", a story about the Chiayi Agriculture and Forestry Baseball Team during the Japanese colonial period in Taiwan.
