Tony Leung (Leung Chiu-wai), born on June 27, 1962, in Hong Kong and originally from Taishan City, Guangdong Province, China, is a renowned Hong Kong actor and formerly a popular pop singer. He also holds the title of National Class I Actor. He has received countless honors throughout his acting career, including six times winning Best Actor at the Hong Kong Film Awards, three times at the Taiwan Golden Horse Awards, and once at the China Golden Rooster Awards. He's the first artist to have received the Best Actor title in all three major awards. His talent and influence are also internationally recognized, earning him awards such as the Lifetime Achievement Golden Lion Award from the Venice Film Festival and the Best Actor Award from the Cannes Film Festival. The jury of the Venice Film Festival also recognizes him as one of the most influential actors in contemporary Asia. Tony Leung is also musically talented and released many popular albums in the '90s. He started his acting career in 1982 when he joined the TVB actor training course and rose to fame in 1984 by starring in the historical drama "The Duke of Mount Deer". In 1988, he won the Best Supporting Actor award at the Hong Kong Film Awards for his role in "People's Hero". In 1993, he released his first Mandarin album "One Day, One Bit of Love", and his leading role in the art film "Chungking Express" in 1994 won him the Best Actor award at the 14th Hong Kong Film Awards and the 31st Taiwan Golden Horse Awards. In 1998, he won the Best Actor award at the 17th Hong Kong Film Awards and the 3rd Hong Kong Film Bauhinia Awards for the film "Happy Together". In 2000, he won the Best Actor award at the 53rd Cannes Film Festival and the 20th Hong Kong Film Awards for "In the Mood for Love". His starring role in the film "Infernal Affairs" won him the Best Actor award at the 22nd Hong Kong Film Awards and the 40th Taiwan Golden Horse Awards. In 2007, he once again won the Best Actor award at the 44th Taiwan Golden Horse Awards for the literary film "Lust, Caution". In 2023, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Golden Lion Award at the 80th Venice Film Festival and won the Best Actor award at the 36th China Golden Rooster Awards for the movie "Hidden Blade". In 2024, he won the Best Actor award at the 42nd Hong Kong Film Awards for the movie "The Goldfinger" and served as the jury president for the main competition at the 37th Tokyo International Film Festival in the same year.
