Sunny Sun (Sun Yang, born July 26, 1989) is a film and television actor born in Hong Kong, with a father from Hong Kong and a mother from Taiwan. He graduated from the Drama Department of Chinese Culture University. In 2014, he made his screen debut in the Taiwanese film "Twa-Tiu-Tiann," starting his acting career. After five years of relative quiet, he experienced a breakthrough in March 2019, starring as the lead character Ah Hao in the youth smuggling-themed film "The Crossing." In July of the same year, he signed with the film company "The City", established by Dong Chengpeng, officially expanding his career in mainland China.
In 2020, he participated in the competitive variety show "Everybody Stand By (Season 2)," which helped increase his visibility. By the end of the year, he was selected for CCTV-6's "Stars and Sea" Young Actor Cultivation Program. In October 2022, he was appointed as the image ambassador for the 9th Chongqing Youth Film Festival, highlighting his recognition in the industry.
2023 marked a period of explosive growth for him. In April, he portrayed the tech innovator Zhuo Ye in the CCTV period drama "City of Youth." In August, he sparked nationwide discussions with his role as the violent thug An Junchai in the crime film "No More Bets." In September, he played the mastermind Chen Xinnian in the heist film "Dust to Dust," directed by Da Peng. By the end of the year, he received the Tencent Video Starlight Award for "Breakthrough Film Actor of the Year," showcasing his transformation.
In 2024, he continued to shine, winning the "Charming Actor of the Year" award at Weibo Night in January and receiving recognition as the "Most Watched Actor of the Year" at the Jingzhou Film Big Data Honor Night in April. With his achievements progressing on dual fronts, he starred in the urban drama "Begin Again," which premiered on December 18, and on December 31, he collaborated with Jin Chen in the anti-fraud romantic film "Honey Money Phony," which concluded with a box office of 443 million RMB, further expanding his acting repertoire with the heartfelt character Ouyang Hui. In January 2025, he appeared at the CCTV Online Spring Festival Gala, showcasing his diverse talents with a performance based on "Begin Again."
