Sammi Cheng

Sammi Cheng (born August 19, 1972) is a renowned singer and actress from Hong Kong. Since her official debut in 1990, she has continued to shine in her music and film career, gaining widespread recognition and earning the titles "Versatile Queen" and "Queen of the Music Scene."
Cheng's music career began in 1988 when she won third place in TVB's "7th New Talent Singing Awards," marking her entry into the entertainment industry. She released her first Cantonese album, "Sammi Cheng," in 1990, quickly establishing her musical presence. To date, she has released over 40 studio albums and held more than 100 large-scale solo concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum, becoming the third female artist in Hong Kong to surpass 100 shows at this venue.
In the film industry, Cheng's influence is equally significant. From 1997 to 2007, she was recognized as a leading box office star in Hong Kong, with her 15 films collectively earning HKD 370 million at the box office. In 2001, she occupied three of the top ten box office spots for the year, showcasing her strong appeal. Her romantic comedy "Needing You..." and the period comedy "Wu Yen" received enthusiastic responses from audiences.
Throughout her career, Cheng has received numerous awards, including the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actress and the Ultimate Song Chart's Best Female Singer Gold Award. Since 2002, she has withdrawn from all four major award ceremonies but continues to achieve success in various music and film awards.
In the 2000s, Cheng's music and film career thrived. She released the album "La La La" in 2004, and her leading role in "The Great Wall" in 2005 drew attention. In 2009, she held the "Love M" world tour, which included over 160 shows by 2015, demonstrating her powerful singing charisma.
In recent years, Cheng's film work has continued to receive acclaim. In 2017, she won the "Outstanding Asian Filmmaker Award" at the Asian Film Awards, and in 2023, she was awarded Best Actress at the Hong Kong Film Awards for her role in "Lost Love." Her achievements extend beyond music and film to her influence in fashion and her multifaceted presence in the entertainment industry, making her a legendary figure in the Chinese music scene.
