Liu Fen-dou

Liu Fen-dou, male, born in 1969 in Beijing, is a well-known director, screenwriter, and producer in mainland China. In 1997, he was the screenwriter for the romance film "Spicy Love Soup." In 1999, he wrote the comedy film "Shower." In 2001, he worked on the romance film "Spring Subway" as a screenwriter. In 2004, he directed his first film "Green Hat," which won Best Narrative Feature and Best New Filmmaker at the Tribeca Film Festival. In 2006, he directed the drama film "Ocean Flame," which was nominated for the Un Certain Regard section at the 61st Cannes Film Festival and Best Film at the 45th Golden Horse Awards. In 2008, he wrote the thriller "Plastic City." In 2011, he directed the romantic comedy "The Pretending Lovers." In 2013, he directed the thriller "Night Blooming," his first directorial work released publicly in mainland China. On June 14, 2019, the action film "The Heart," directed by him, was released.
Notably, "Green Hat" was adapted from Wang Shuo's novel "Rubber Man" and won several international film festival awards. "Ocean Flame" was based on Wang Shuo's novel, for which he granted Liu Fendou the adaptation rights for free. The lead actress Mo Xiaoqi was nominated for several major awards because of this film. However, due to creative differences, Liu Fendou ultimately did not acknowledge the 2010 film "Pretend Lovers" as his directorial work. Overall, Liu Fendou is a prominent figure among the new generation of Chinese film directors, known for his dynamic style and diverse themes, achieving remarkable success both domestically and internationally.
