Li Wei-ran

Li Wei-ran was born on November 29, 1975, in Kunming, Yunan Province, China. He graduated from the Beijing Film Academy's Directing Department and is a renowned Chinese mainland director, scriptwriter, and producer proficient across diverse genres. His first notable work came in 2000 when he filmed an advertisement for United Nations Children's Fund entitled "Other People's Children”. This achievement made him the first Chinese to win the highest honour in the advertising world, the "One Show" award, often dubbed the 'Oscar of Advertising'. In 2004, his distinctive ad won him the Gold Award and the Grand Prize at the 11th China Advertising Festival, along with the Hong Kong 4A Gold Award. Three years later, in 2007, his captivating advert "Balabala" clinched the Gold Award at the 14th China Advertising Festival and a Silver Award at the UK Ad Festival. In 2010, Li Weiran ventured into the realm of feature films and directed his first work, "Welcome to Shama Town". The unique storyline was warmly received by the audience and earned him a nomination for the Best New Director at the 47th Taiwan Golden Horse Award. Fast forward to 2012; Li Weiran directed a romantic short film, "Because of love the moon", which not only garnered widespread attention but also won the Golden Eye Award for Best Drama. The following year, Li not only directed the romance film "Love Will Tear Us Apart," but also served as its producer. In 2016, his short film "17把樂帶回家 (Bring Back the Joy with 17)" brought surprises and emotions to the audience. By 2024, he had written and directed his film "I love you to the moon and back," which had a nationwide release in Mainland China.
