Karen Mok

Karen Mok, born on June 2, 1970, in Hong Kong, is a British-Hong Kong singer and actress, hailed as the "Queen of Asian Pop." She was born and raised in Hong Kong and officially entered the entertainment industry in 1993. In 1995, her starring role in the film "A Chinese Odyssey" garnered her widespread attention. In 1997, she released her first Mandarin album, "Be Yourself," in Taiwan. Mok's musical achievements have made her a significant figure in the Hong Kong music scene, and her song "透視" (Perspective) topped four major charts. In 2020, her Cantonese single "呼吸有害" (Breathing is Harmful) became the first song in Hong Kong to reach the top of all five major radio charts, and in 2021, she received multiple prestigious music awards. By 2023, she had become one of the most streamed Mandarin pop female singers globally on Spotify, showcasing her enduring influence in the music industry.
In terms of concerts, Mok is the only Hong Kong female singer to hold five solo performances at Taipei Arena. In 2016, she took her "Look at the World" concert tour to Italy and Spain, becoming the first Chinese singer to perform there. In 2024, she held a concert at the National Stadium (Bird's Nest) in Beijing, making her the first Chinese female singer to perform at this venue.
Beyond her music career, Mok is also active in the film and television industry. In 1996, she won the Best Supporting Actress award at the 15th Hong Kong Film Awards for her outstanding performance in "Fallen Angels," becoming the first actress to receive two Best Supporting Actress awards simultaneously. She later received nominations for Best Actress at both the Hong Kong Film Awards and the Golden Horse Awards for her role in "God of Cookery," and was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Rooster Awards for "Mr. Cinema." She is the first actress to achieve a full set of nominations across the three major Chinese film awards (Golden Rooster, Golden Horse, and Hong Kong Film Awards). Additionally, she has been nominated six times for the Best Actress award at the Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards. In 2024, Mok starred in the film "Cesium Fallout," portraying the character Cecilia.
