Ekin Cheng

Ekin Cheng (Cheng Yee-Kin) was born on October 4, 1967, in Hong Kong, with ancestral roots in Enping, Guangdong. He first entered the public eye by appearing in a "Yeung Gwong Lemon Tea" advertisement. In 1984, he participated in a singing competition co-organized by TVB and Capital Artists, and two years later, he joined the TVB Artist Training Class, becoming a disciple of the renowned singer Roman Tam Pak Sin.
Ekin made his acting debut in 1989 with the television drama "Young Beat" and hosted several youth programs, including "430 Space Shuttle." In 1990, he played the antagonist Lu Depei in the drama "A Moment of Romance." The following year, he won the championship in the "CASH Songwriting Competition," officially launching his singing career, and received the Most Promising Newcomer Award at the Ultimate Song Chart Awards Presentation for his debut album "Don't Cry."
In 1992, Ekin appeared in his first film, "Girls Without Tomorrow" and later won the Best Male Singer Award at the Metro Info for his second album "Sahara." From 1996 to 2000, he gained immense popularity for his role as the gang leader Chen Haonan in the "Young and Dangerous" series, appearing in several box office hits such as "Wind & Cloud: Conquer the World," "A Man Called Hero" and "Tokyo Raiders." During this period, he continuously released albums and received multiple music awards.
In 2001, Ekin was nominated for Best Actor at the 38th Golden Horse Awards for his role in "Goodbye Mr. Cool." However, his singing career stagnated after that, and he shifted his focus to films. In 2003, he starred in the art film "The Floating Landscape," which was nominated at the 23rd Hong Kong Film Awards. In 2008, he won the Best Actor award at the 12th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival for "Rule #1" and began holding concerts the following year. Additionally, in 2008, he received the "Outstanding Film Fashion Personality of the 2000s" award at the Fashion Media Annual Trendsetter Awards in Shanghai.
In the following years, Ekin participated in various film and television projects, including "Full Strike" and "The Brightest of Us," and sang theme songs for several productions. In 2022, he starred in the upcoming Taiwanese drama "Million-Follower Detective." His film "Last Song For You," in which he stars, is set to premiere in Hong Kong on December 20, 2024.
