Derek Yee

Derek Yee (Yee Tung-sing), born on December 28, 1957, in Hong Kong, is a multi-talented filmmaker with roles including director, screenwriter, producer, and actor. He started his career as a young martial arts actor in Shaw Brothers Studio, then transitioned behind the scenes, becoming a critically acclaimed director and screenwriter and producing over ten films. Yee starred in his first film, "The Sexy Killer.....," in 1977 and rose to fame in the same year's martial arts film "Death Duel". In 1985, he began to try his hand at directing and in 1986 he directed his first film "The Lunatics". In 1993, he directed the film "C'est la vie, mon chéri", which not only won him the Best Director and Best Screenplay awards at the 13th Hong Kong Film Awards but also earned him a nomination for Best Director at the 30th Taiwan Golden Horse Awards. He created works like "Full Throttle" and "Viva Erotica" from 1995 to 2002. In 2004, his "One Nite in Mongkok" once again won him the Best Screenplay and Best Director awards at the Hong Kong Film Awards. In 2007, his film "Protege" won him the Outstanding Director Award from the Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild and another nomination for Best Director at the Taiwan Golden Horse Awards. From 2010 to 2016, he remained highly productive, directing films like "Triple Tap" and "I Am Somebody". "I Am Somebody" also won the Top Ten Film Drama Award at the 7th China Film Association Cup and the Best Director Award at the 13th Changchun Film Festival in China. The same year, he also heavily promoted the release of the movie "Sword Master". From 2022 to 2024, he continued to create, produced the film "Rob N Roll" and directed the film "In Search of Lost Time".
