Chung Shu-kai

Chung Shu-kai, born on April 13, 1966, in Hong Kong, is a Hong Kong director, screenwriter, and producer. In 1974, he participated in the Hong Kong Radio Television program "Below the Lion Rock," where he met director Allen Fong Yuk-ping, which inspired him to become a film director. After graduating from high school at the age of 17, Chung began working in the production industry. At 19, he joined Hong Kong Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) as an assistant director and later worked as a director and senior director. By the age of 29, he became a producer and successfully produced his first TV series "Old Time Buddy," which won multiple awards at the 1997 TVB Anniversary Awards. In 2000, Chung began directing Hong Kong films under the pseudonym "Chung Ching," specializing in stories about grassroots life, with most of his works being comedies. In 2001, he was invited by Eric Tsang to direct the mainland Chinese TV series "其實你不懂我的心 (Actually, You Don't Understand My Heart)," starring Tsang, marking his active involvement in the mainland Chinese film and television market. He moved to Beijing in 2005, got married in 2012, and has two daughters.

During his time directing in mainland China, he directed the urban romance drama "奔騰向海洋(Rushing to the Sea)" in 2002. In 2007, he directed the comedy film "Beauty & The 7 Beasts," and in 2010, he directed the comedy film "72 Tenants of Prosperity." In 2013, he directed the historical drama "Prince of Lan Ling" and won the Best Director Award at the 6th Macau International Movie Festival in 2014 for the comedy film "Golden Brother." He continued to produce several works, including the 2016 historical fantasy drama "Fighter of the Destiny," the 2017 urban romance dramas "See You Again" and "Ten Years Late." In 2020, he directed the period romance drama "Love in Flames of War" and the historical romantic drama "Shining Just For You," both of which were successfully released.

In 2022, Eric Tsang invited Chung to serve as the director of TVB New Wings Limited (later renamed 77 Studio Limited), responsible for handling TVB's joint production projects with mainland China and overseas.
