Cheng Wei-hao

Taiwanese director Cheng Wei-hao, born on May 16, 1984, in Kaohsiung. After obtaining a Bachelor's degree in advertising and public relations from Fu Jen Catholic University and a Master's degree in film studies from National Taiwan University of Arts, he devoted himself to the field of film directing. His debut short film "You Are Not Alone" received the Asia Outstanding Film Award at the Beijing Film Academy International Student Film and Video Festival and the Best New Director Award at the Southern Taiwan Film Festival in 2008. His short film "Real Sniper" was selected as an observation film in the "Chinese Vision Unit" of the Golden Horse International Film Festival in 2009, and won a film industry prize at the Taipei Film Award in 2010.
Cheng Wei-Hao's directorial achievements did not stop there. In 2015, his short film "The Death of A Security Guard" successfully swept the Best Drama Short Film Award at both the Golden Horse Awards and the Taipei Film Awards, making a strong mark in the Kaohsiung Film Festival International Short Film Competition and the Golden Harvest Awards. In the same year, his first full-length drama film "The Tag-Along" was release in Taiwan. Not only was this film nominated for four awards at the Golden Horse Awards - Best New Director, Best Actress, Best Special Effects, Best Editing, it also broke Taiwan's horror film box office record of the past decade with an income of 85 million new Taiwan dollars.
Continuing his success, Cheng Wei-Hao released his second and third full-length drama films in 2017, namely "Who Killed Cock Robin" and "The Tag-Along 2". Among them, "Who Killed Cock Robin" grossed over 50 million new Taiwan dollars in Taiwan, and was nominated for Best Director at both Taipei Film Awards and the Asian New Talent Award at the Shanghai International Film Festival. The other film "The Tag-Along 2" broke the box office record with over 100 million New Taiwan dollars, becoming the only Taiwanese film to achieve this feat in 2017, and refreshed the box office record of Taiwanese horror films and sequels once again. Cheng Wei-Hao's achievements make it clear that he is a respected and talented director to watch.
