Chen Shu-fang

Chen Shu-fang (born Chen Xiao on July 2, 1939), nicknamed "National Grandma," was born in the Jiufen area of Ruifang District, New Taipei City, Taiwan. Her acting career began around 1957, during which she participated in numerous television dramas and films. Chen Shufang studied at the National Taiwan University of Arts and was mentored by radio drama pioneer Cui Xiaoping.
Since her debut in 1958, she has appeared in countless works, including "Flying Dragon in the Sky," "Perfect Neighbors," "Taiwan Tornado," "A Borrowed Life," "A City of Sadness," and "Taipei Story." Notably, she received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Taipei Film Awards for her role in "Wild Sparrow." Her performances have been beloved by audiences, earning her multiple nominations for the Golden Bell Awards for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress.
In 2020, she won the Best Actor Award at the Pingtung Film Festival for her outstanding performance in the short film "After Journey." That same year, her roles in the films "Little Big Women" and "Dear Tenant" earned her both the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress awards at the 57th Golden Horse Awards, making her the first actor to win both awards in the same year, as well as setting the record for the oldest recipient of the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress awards at the Golden Horse Awards. In 2021, she again won Best Actress at the 2nd Taiwan Critics Association Awards for her performance in "Little Big Women." On January 20, 2023, the film "Scamsgiving," starring Chen Shufang, was released in theaters in Taiwan. Additionally, the film "Tales of Taipei," in which she is featured, is set to premiere in Taiwan on August 30, 2024.
