Andy Lau, full name Lau Tak Wah, was born on September 27, 1961. He is a Hong Kong actor, singer, lyricist, producer, and presenter. He is also recognized as one of the "Four Heavenly Kings" of the Hong Kong music scene and the most awarded Hong Kong singer. In addition to his outstanding performance in music, Andy Lau has also made noticeable achievements in the film and television industry. He has participated in over 170 film productions, thrice won the Best Actor Award at the Hong Kong Film Awards, and has twice received the Golden Horse Award for Best Actor.
Andy Lau is not just a performer, he is also an accomplished film producer. He is the founder of the Screen Arts Group and the Sky Screen Company, and has been involved in more than 30 Chinese-language films as an investor and producer.
In 1999, Andy Lau was honored as one of the "Ten Outstanding Young Persons of Hong Kong" and the "Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World" in the following year, making him one of the very few Hong Kong artists to receive this prestigious award. In 2006, Andy Lau was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts for his great contribution and professionalism to the Hong Kong film and music industry. In 2024, he was elected as the 11th Vice Chairman of the Chinese Filmmakers Association (CFA), further proving his importance in the Chinese film industry.
Mr. Lau Tak Wah, known by his Dharma name "Wai Kok", is a passionate advocate of Buddhist practice and charitable causes. He was appointed Justice of the Peace by the Hong Kong SAR Government in 2008 and was invited to become the Vice Chairman of the China Disabled Persons Welfare Foundation in 2010. In 2017, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the Hong Kong Shue Yan University for his contributions to public service and performing arts. As a prolific and diverse entertainer, Andy Lau has continued to influence the Chinese-speaking community with his talent and philanthropic loyalty.
