Jason Kwan, originally from Nanhai, Guangdong, was born in Hong Kong in 1964 and went to Japan to study film production in 1990. After graduation, he returned to Hong Kong in 1993 and joined the photography team of Salon Films. He began his career as a short film photographer and became a freelance photographer in 2001. His first feature film as a cinematographer is the 2004 Malay film "Puteri Gunung Ledang (Princess of Gold Mountain)."
He had his first opportunity to direct in 2017, showcasing his leadership skills in the movie "A Nail Clipper Romance," produced by Pang Ho-Cheung. He co-directed "Chasing the Dragon" with Wong Jing, starring Donnie Yen and Andy Lau. In addition, he served as the cinematographer for numerous films like "All About Love," "Love in a Puff," "Cold War," "The Last Tycoon," and "Aberdeen."
In 2018, Jason Kwan won the Best Cinematography award at the 37th Hong Kong Film Awards for his outstanding performance in "Chasing the Dragon," and won again the next year for "Project Gutenberg." Kwan's excellence has not only earned him numerous accolades and awards, but he has also proven that he is not simply an exceptional photographer, he is also a director of rich and diverse talents.
