Jo Koo, born on May 16, 1977, in Hong Kong, is a versatile singer, actress, DJ, and model. She entered the entertainment industry in 1993 after being discovered by director Fruit Chan, and graduated from the University of Technology Sydney with a major in marketing. As the niece of renowned actor and director Vincent Kok Tak Chiu, Jo signed with Warner Music in 2001 and sang the theme song for the film "Born Wild." The following year, she released her debut album "Jo Koo."
In addition to her music career, she has appeared in several films and hosted various radio programs on commercial radio, including "絕情谷 (The Valley of No Return)," "夜夜開放 (Open All Night)," and "讓女俠飛 (Let the Heroine Fly)." She also temporarily hosted "嘩!嘩!嘩!打到嚟!(Wow! Wow! Wow! Here We Go!)".
However, in 2006 and 2007, Jo faced personal tragedy when her family members fell to their deaths at La Salle College, which led her to suffer from depression. Subsequently, she co-founded the "Early Psychosis Foundation" with Vincent Kok, which became a registered charity in 2009 aimed at raising awareness about mental health issues.
In 2008, Jo shifted her focus to the food industry by opening a dessert shop called "Xiao Tian Gu" in Tai Hang on Hong Kong Island, followed by a branch in Kennedy Town. In 2015, she was recognized by the City Women’s Club as one of the "Most Fashionable Professional Women in Hong Kong." She participated in the Business and Economic Development Bureau's food truck pilot program in 2017 but withdrew shortly after. Later, she collaborated with eGG, a fast-fashion brand under Optical 88, to open a pop-up restaurant called eGG meets Little Sweet Valley, which became the first restaurant in Hong Kong where customers could get their glasses fitted.
In her personal life, Jo Koo married her boyfriend Andrew on December 18, 2010, with a wedding banquet held at the InterContinental Hotel. She gave birth to her first daughter, Liu Xin, via cesarean section at Union Hospital on July 20, 2012, and welcomed her second daughter, Liu Yue, in November 2014. Jo Koo's film "Papa" premiered at the Tokyo International Film Festival on October 31, 2024, showcasing her ongoing talents in the entertainment industry.
