The Last Dance

破·地獄 (Original Title)

"The Last Dance" is a Hong Kong drama film released in 2024, produced and distributed by Emperor Motion Pictures. Directed, written, and produced by Anselm Chan, the film stars Dayo Wong, Michael Hui, Michelle Wai, and Tommy Chu. It is the first film set against the backdrop of Hong Kong's funeral industry, exploring themes of interpersonal relationships and life and death through Taoist funeral rituals.
The film officially premiered in Hong Kong on November 9, 2024, and its opening day box office (as of 5 PM that day) exceeded 5.5 million HKD, breaking the previous record of 5.19 million HKD set by the 2024 film "Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In." It became the highest-grossing opening for a Hong Kong film that year. On the morning of the second day of release (November 10), the film team announced on social media that the box office had surpassed 10 million HKD, achieving this milestone faster than Dayo Wong's 2023 film "A Guilty Conscience," which reached 10 million on its second day, and surpassing the record of "Table for Six," which broke 10 million on its fifth day.
"The Last Dance" premiered at the 44th Hawaii International Film Festival in October 2024 and served as the opening film for the 21st Hong Kong Asian Film Festival. It was also selected for the World Focus section of the 37th Tokyo International Film Festival.
