Anselm Chan (Chan Mou Yin) was born on December 13, 1982, and is a screenwriter and director from Hong Kong. He is a member of the Hong Kong Screenwriters Guild and a registered hypnotherapist and hypnotherapy trainer. His directorial works include "Ready o/r Knot" and "Ready or Rot," while "The Last Dance" is his third feature film.
In his youth, Chan aspired to become a horse racing commentator. He began his career at the age of 16 or 17, working alongside commentator Ma Yan-ci, and later became an editor for a horse racing magazine under Wong Jing, where he learned screenwriting under Wong's guidance. In 2002, he officially entered the film and television industry by joining Jing's Production Limited, where he participated in the writing of several television dramas. In 2006, he joined Wong Jing at the See Corporation Limited, Mega-Vision Pictures Limited. By 2009, he left Mega-Vision Pictures to develop his career in mainland China.
Throughout his screenwriting career, Chan has contributed to numerous projects, including the television show "Central Affairs" in 2005 and the film "Super Fans" in 2007. In 2012, his screenplays for "Ultra Reinforcement" and "Love is... Pyjamas" were released. In 2016, his comedy film "House of Wolves" premiered in Hong Kong. In 2018, he served as both producer and screenwriter for the comedy-action film "Keep Calm And Be A Superstar," which was released in January, followed by the broadcast of "The Lost Swordship" in February.
In 2012, at the invitation of director Vincent Kok Tak Chiu, Chan returned to Hong Kong to collaborate on several comedies, including "Hotel Deluxe," "Hello Babies," and "House of Wolves." In 2021, he began directing, with his first work "Ready o/r Knot" receiving positive feedback and premiering in mainland China in April 2021. The following year, he filmed the sequel "Ready or Rot," which premiered at the Chicago Asian Film Festival on September 16, 2023, and was released in Hong Kong on November 30, followed by a streaming premiere on iQIYI and Youku on December 14. In 2024, he started filming "The Last Dance," a project centered on the funeral industry, which broke multiple records for Hong Kong films upon its release.
