Chin Shih-chieh

Chin Shih-chieh, born on December 29, 1951, is a male actor, playwright, and director from Donggang Township, Pingtung County, Taiwan. Known in the theater community as "Chin Bao," he is affectionately referred to by peers and respectfully called "Teacher Chin" by younger generations. He is recognized as one of the pioneers of modern theater in Taiwan and an important figure in promoting the arts.
In 1978, Chin wrote his first play, "Performance," and also made his film debut in the romantic comedy "Lover On The Wave." In 1979, he founded Taiwan's first experimental theater troupe, "Lanling Theater." The following year, he adapted the traditional Peking opera "He Zhu Pei" into a play titled "New He Zhu Match," which premiered at Taiwan's first Experimental Theater Festival, bringing acclaim to "Lanling Theater" and establishing Chin as a leading figure in the theater scene. That same year, his short film "What to Do About That Broken Staircase?" won an outstanding work award at the 3rd Golden Harvest Awards.
In 1989, he starred in the dramatic film "A City of Sadness," which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. Although "Lanling Theater" announced its dissolution in 1991, Chin's passion for theater remained strong, and he continued to participate in various plays, including "Secret Love In Peach Blossom Land" and "Tuesdays with Morrie."
In 2014, he portrayed the Ming Dynasty eunuch Wei Zhongxian in the period action film "Brotherhood of Blades," earning a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the 51st Golden Horse Awards. His performance in the 2015 kung fu film "The Master" garnered him the Best Supporting Actor award at the 6th Beijing International Film Festival. In 2017, he reprised his role in the period action sequel "Brotherhood of Blades II: The Infernal Battlefield," earning a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the 1st Saipan International Film Festival.
Chin Shih-chieh's artistic career is marked by numerous achievements and has profoundly influenced Taiwan's theater and film industries.
