Cheryl Yang Chin-hua (born December 12, 1977) is a renowned Taiwanese actress who graduated from the private Yuda Commercial and Business School with a focus on International Trade. She began her career in advertising at the age of 14 and officially entered the entertainment industry in November 2001. Her collaboration with superstar Andy Lau in the music video for "Ice Rain" brought her significant attention. In 2018, she registered her marriage with her boyfriend Ben and continues to shine in the entertainment world.
Yang made her acting debut in the 2002 drama "My Secret Garden" and later appeared in "熟女慾望日記 (The Diary of a Mature Woman)" in 2003. In 2006, she played a reporter in the critically acclaimed series "The Hospital," a role that earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 42nd Golden Bell Awards. In 2008, she starred in the war film "Blue Brave: The Legend of Formosa in 1895," which was primarily in Hakka and adapted from the works of writer Li Chiao. Yang gained widespread recognition in 2009 for her role as Shan Wushuang in "My Queen," earning her first nomination for Best Actress at the Golden Bell Awards.
In 2010, she took on a villainous role in the mainland Chinese version of "Fall in Love," collaborating with Korean star Jang Hyuk. In 2011, she participated in "Happy Michelin Kitchen" and received the "Top Ten Asian Stars" award from Huayu TV the same year. In 2015, Yang starred in the period drama "A Touch of Green," which won her the Best Actress award at the Singapore Asian Television Awards and another nomination for Best Actress at the 51st Golden Bell Awards.
Throughout her career, Yang has been nominated five times for Best Actress in a Drama Series at the Golden Bell Awards for her performances in "My Queen," "The Queen!," "A Touch of Green," "The Mirror," and "Light the Night." In 2023, she appeared in the historical drama "The Legends of Monkey King," which premiered on Youku, and participated in the mainland variety show "Ride the Wind 2024" in 2024. Additionally, she will be featured in "Detective Chinatown 2," set to premiere in February 2024, and star in the drama "Us Without Sex," which airs on September 1, 2024.
