Angelica Lee (born January 23, 1976, in Alor Setar, Kedah, Malaysia) is a Chinese-language actress and singer. Her father ran a motorcycle shop, while her mother was a homemaker. Lee developed a passion for singing competitions during her elementary school years and later became the head of the drama club at Ji Hua High School. Her career spans music, film, and theater, and she is married to renowned Hong Kong director Pang Shun, with whom she tied the knot in 2010. In 1994, Lee participated in a film newcomer audition and was discovered by Sylvia Chang, leading her to move to Taiwan and sign with Rock Records.
In 1996, she released her first Mandarin album, "Under the Same Starry Sky." She made her film debut in "I Love You, You Love Me" in 2000 and won the Best New Actress award at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2001. In 2003, Lee gained significant attention for her role in the horror film "The Eye," which earned her the Best Actress award at both the 39th Golden Horse Awards and the 22nd Hong Kong Film Awards, making her the first actress to simultaneously win multiple major film awards and earning her the title "Queen of Horror." Her acting was highly praised by critics, leading to more opportunities in the genre.
Following that, in 2004, Lee wrote and starred in the drama "20 30 40," and in 2006, she starred in the horror film "Re-cycle." In 2011, she participated in the play "Fate Architect's Bright Future," and in 2015, she appeared in the drama "Murmur Of The Hearts." Her 2019 film "The Garden of Evening Mists" received positive reviews. In 2023, she produced her first film, "Abang Adik," which was released. That same year, she also released the single "Little Yellow Flower." In 2024, she will participate in directing the film "Tales of Taipei."
