Yao Hung-I

Yao Hung-I, a Taiwanese photographer and director, graduated from the Sculpture Department of Fu-Hsin Trade and Arts School. In 1994, through a friend's introduction, he had the opportunity to join the filming team of Hou Hsiao-hsien's "Good Men, Good Women" and started learning from the assistant position. He subsequently participated in many of Hou's films. Encouraged by Hou Hsiao-hsien, he began to experiment with scriptwriting and released his first film "Reflections" in 2006. Yao Hung-I studied under Hou Hsiao-hsien for over ten years and directed the documentary "Hometown Boy" in 2011, which won the Best Documentary Award at the 48th Golden Horse Awards. In 2018, he won the Best Cinematography Award at the 55th Golden Horse Awards for the film "Long Day's Journey into Night." In 2024, Yao Hung-I directed "GATAO: Like Father Like Son," which was officially released.
