Philip Yung

Philip Yung (Yung Tsz-kwong) was born on March 23, 1979, in Huiyang, Guangdong. He is an active director, screenwriter, film critic, and online radio host in the Hong Kong film industry. He began participating in mid-stage production of films and television in 1998, also taking on the role of film producer. In 2001, he transitioned to become a film critic. Philip Yung made his directorial debut with the documentary short film "Lei Yue Mun" in 2005. In 2009, he directed his first feature film, "Glamorous Youth," which earned him a nomination for Best New Director at the 29th Hong Kong Film Awards. His 2015 film "Port of Call" was a major success, winning him the Best Screenplay Award at the 35th Hong Kong Film Awards and earning nine nominations at the 52nd Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan. Philip Yung has also served as a judge for various prestigious film festivals and competitions, including the Hong Kong International Film Festival, the Fresh Wave Short Film Competition, the FIPRESCI Prize at the Golden Horse Film Festival in Taiwan, the Quality Chinese Film Awards, and the Chinese Film Media Awards. He is a formal member of the Hong Kong Film Critics Society and the Hong Kong Film Critics Association. In 2023, he directed his first non-Category III film, "Where the Wind Blows," which was released in mainland China and Hong Kong.
