During the late Qing Dynasty, the society was in turmoil. In the Wen Yuan Pavilion deep in the palace, a treasure map hidden in the Lotus Pond was stolen, attracting various factions to compete for this earth-shattering treasure. Among them was the former imperial guard, San Dao (played by Junjie Qin), dispatched by the Imperial Household Department to retrieve the treasure map and find the culprits. Meanwhile, a homicide occurred at an inn in Dagu County, Tianjin City. A group of people returning from Japan died tragically, with the scene too gruesome to behold. The local magistrate, Wang Dibao (played by Han Chen Peng), who abandoned his academic examinations to become a detective, rushed to the scene. Thanks to his abundant knowledge, he determined that the crime was committed by the Lunghsi Rongtianling clan, based on the victims' wounds and the killer's modus operandi. On the other hand, the leader of Rongtianling, Zhuo Bufan (played by Yuning Liu), received a report that the victims had been murdered and obtained crucial information. The Lotus Pond treasure had always been a mystery to the palace, but recently, Prince Qi (played by Peiqi Liu) discovered that the key to the treasure was with Tan Xian (played by Fengyan Zong). Being eager to push for political changes, Prince Qi needed substantial financial support, and Zhuo Bufan needed funds to inherit martial arts and establish a new base in the Central Plains. Hence, they teamed up to find the treasure. Pursuing their individual goals, these three found themselves drawn into a monumental historical tide in a place known as the "Shili Foreign Concession". Unbeknownst to them, from then on, they were caught up in the turbulent historical current.
