Trade War

The plot is set in Taiwan in the 1950s, near the end of the Korean War when the government prepared to privatize the state-owned Taiwan Cement. General Ma led this process. At that time, Lin Deng, the chairman of the Cement Association of the province and manager of the asbestos building materials company, got close to General Ma to compete for the operation rights of Taiwan Cement, eventually discovering that the government was actually looking to develop land on a large scale. To obtain the management rights of Taiwan Cement, Lin Deng agreed to General Ma's terms. He liaised between five major families, persuading them to exchange their land for shares in Taiwan Cement.
Lin Deng's old Japanese friend, Huang Hongta, married the daughter of the wealthy Huang family. In his hope to rejuvenate the Huang family, he also desired the management rights of Taiwan Cement. Consequently, there arose political and commercial struggles between the major five families and the government.
