Albert Mak

Albert Mak, a Hong Kong director, was born in 1965 to an ordinary family. His father was a firefighter and his mother was a full-time housewife. Growing up, Mak Kai-kwong didn't display a strong interest in cinema, and in his early adulthood, he struggled to find a suitable profession. However, fate provided a turning point in 1989 when he was introduced to the role of a film production assistant through a friend.
By 1992, he began serving as an assistant director and had the opportunity to work closely with renowned directors such as James Yuen, Derek Yee, Johnnie To, Ringo Lam, and Wong Jing. During this period, he developed a passion for film craftsmanship and began to learn about various aspects of film production, including scriptwriting, cinematography, lighting, and art design.
In 2000, Albert Mak reached a milestone in his career by directing his first film, "Play with Strangers". Since then, he has consistently explored new subjects and genres, directing comedies, horror films, and heartwarming romantic films. From his directorial debut in 2000 to date, he has created eight major films, several of which he also participated in writing the screenplays.
In recent years, he has primarily worked as an executive director on films directed by Johnnie To, including "Life Without Principle", "Drug War", and "Blind Detective".
